I always want the way I express myself to be significant. I want it to matter (mostly to me).
When I put on a piece of jewelry, I want to be reminded of something that I support.
Something that I’m completely on board with. I want a piece of jewelry that has a purpose.
A lot of the things I find on online marketplaces don’t work for me. Because I’m not cool with the message behind those pieces.
Profit and exploitation might be the historical norm, but it’s not something I want hanging from my neck or wrapped around my finger.
What cause does your jewelry support?
First, I donate 5 percent of profits to Polaris Project. They’re an organization that actively combats human trafficking and provides relief to survivors.
Second, me making jewelry enables me to volunteer at an organization that’s like a legal robinhood. It gives me the flexibilty in my schedule that allows someone my age to help out (hint: there's very rarely another 30 year old volunteering with us). We "rob" (pick up) from grocery stores and redistribute the food to those in need. Surprisingly, most food waste is still good and safe to eat.
Is there a message behind your jewelry?
While each piece has its own story, the broader message is one tied directly to how someone places an order.
Every month when the moon becomes full, orders open.
I think that all of us understand that life gets dark. Sometimes that darkness can consume so much that it doesn’t leave the faintest hint of light.
It's real easy to forget we aren't alone when things get bad. Friends start to look like enemies. Joys become bothersome. And our relationships crumble.
But just because we can’t see the light doesn’t rean it isn’t there.
The rings are purchased in the light of the full moon. They are conceived when the light is present and then forged through it's darkness. All the while passing through the fire.
They are a reminder that the light is always with you.
Because it can be hard to remember this.
And so I want the jewelry itself to be so tied to this theme that when put your ring on in the morning, you can't help but remember.
Born in the light. Forged in the darkness. You have passed through the fire.
And it has made you all the more beautiful.
